Srinagar, Nov 06: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator R S Pathania on Wednesday criticised the resolution of restoration of special status passed in the J&K Assembly, calling it a “burial of democracy”.
The resolution was “showcased drama”, orchestrated under the guidance of Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, he alleged.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Pathania said the scheduled business of the house was to discuss LG Sinha’s address, but instead, democracy was “undermined”.
“The drama was directed by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, who spent the day delivering speeches on leaders like Somnath Chatterjee, and later in the evening met NC legislators to draft this resolution,” the BJP leader said, calling the process “unfortunate and unacceptable”.
Pathania dismissed the resolution as “meaningless”, labelling it “just a piece of paper with no value”. He said the National Conference and Congress “staged this act to deceive the people” of Jammu and Kashmir.
“We reject and will not accept this. It is a direct attack on the aspirations of the people. We are in indefinite protest and will continue until an apology is given,” he said.
Another BJP MLA Pawan Kumar Gupta said the matter has already been resolved by the Supreme Court, and reviving the debate is an attempt to mislead the public for political gains.
“NC and Congress are using Article 370 as a political tool to manipulate sentiments, even though the Supreme Court has already put the issue to rest. This is a clear attempt to stir unnecessary controversy and divert attention from real issues,” he added.
Gupta said the BJP stands firm on the abrogation of Article 370 and that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are witnessing development and progress under the current government.
“Both NC and Congress are trying to reignite a debate that is already closed, only to confuse the people. The focus should be on progress, not on issues that have been legally resolved,” he said. “The public should not fall for these tactics, instead support the ongoing development efforts in the region.”
