Srinagar, Sep 11: A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel was injured early Wednesday following an exchange of fire with Pakistani troops in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu division, officials reported.
According to a BSF spokesperson, the incident occurred around 2:35 a.m. in the Kanachak area, when Pakistani forces opened fire on a BSF post. The injured soldier is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. The extent of Pakistani casualties remains unclear.
Security forces are on high alert, closely monitoring activity along both the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC). Officials have implemented an all-round domination strategy and are prepared to respond to any situation. “We are maintaining strict vigil across the borders and ensuring the highest degree of professionalism,” a security official said.
In terms of border security, the BSF has reported a decline in drone activity, which was previously used for smuggling weapons and narcotics. Over the past few years, the BSF has made significant progress in tackling drone incursions.
On Tuesday, Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF), Jammu Frontier, assured that the borders are fully secure and counter-infiltration measures are in place. “No infiltration attempts by terrorists will be permitted during the election process,” he emphasized, with Jammu and Kashmir scheduled to vote in the first phase of Assembly elections on September 18.
Despite a ceasefire agreement reaffirmed by India and Pakistan in February 2021, cross-border incidents persist. Last year, a BSF jawan was killed by Pakistani Rangers in the Ramgarh sector, marking the first fatality in over three years.
This latest incident coincides with preparations for Jammu and Kashmir’s first Assembly elections in a decade, which will be conducted in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1.
