Srinagar, July 14: The Jammu Kashmir Administration on Friday appointed Braj Raj Sharma, retired IAS Officer as State Election Commissioner for Jammu and Kashmir.
As per the GAD order SO 367 of July 14, 2023, reads that “In exercise of the powers conferred by the proviso to sub-section (3) of section 36 of the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989, the Lieutenant Governor of Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir is pleased to appoint Mr. B R Sharma, IAS (retd) as State Election Commissioner for the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir under the said Act,” it said.
The order further said that “He shall hold the position of State Election Commissioner till he attains the age of sixty-five years”.
The appointment of State Election Commissioner, it said, shall take effect from the date he assumes the charge.
Born on April 27, 1960, the former Chief Secretary and the chairman of J&K Public Service Commission shall have tenure till 2025.
“The terms and conditions of his appointment shall be notified by the Government subsequently.”
