Srinagar, Aug 13: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district staged an unusual celebration on Wednesday, pouring 50 litres of milk over a photograph of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The act, they said, was a gesture of respect and gratitude after the Jammu and Kashmir administration led by Monoj Sinha provided government jobs for victims of terrorism, a demand that had gone unfulfilled for over three decades. The event was led by former Kupwara district BJP president Javed Qureshi. “Those who lost their dear ones went unheard by past regimes,” Qureshi said. “They were left to live with pain and helplessness. It is the Modi-led BJP that is doing justice with everyone, without discrimination.”According to him, this is the first time in 35 years that somebody has responded to the needs of such victims in a meaningful way. “This is not just about giving a job. This is about acknowledging their suffering and standing by them. It is justice to those who have been fighting for recognition for decades,” he said.Qureshi recalled a time when people turned out in large numbers for the funerals of terrorists, while those carrying the national flag were mocked and labelled as “Indian” in a derogatory way. “Now, the time has changed,” he said. “The BJP government has made it possible for the national flag to be carried with dignity and respect by everyone. There is pride where there was once fear.”He accused earlier governments of ignoring the grievances of terror victims despite repeated pleas. “The families felt abandoned. Their voices were drowned out by politics and indifference. Even though they were citizens of this country, their pain went unacknowledged,” he said. The BJP leader credited the present administration for breaking that cycle of neglect. “It is only the BJP government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi that has given these victims not just financial help, but dignity and recognition. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has lessened their grievances and eased their pain by ensuring they have a livelihood,” he said.Qureshi described the pouring of milk on the LG’s photograph as a symbolic act. “Milk is a sign of purity and respect. By offering it to his photograph, we are expressing our gratitude for his role in delivering justice to people who thought it would never come,” he explained.“This is a message,” he said. “Those who once felt they had no voice are now being heard. Now this government is ensuring that justice reaches every corner of the valley.”
