After more than twenty five years it is a historic comeback for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi, the national capital. Delhi is not only the national capital but the place that witnessed an era of turbulence in 1947 at the time of independence. It must be remembered that partition of India and creation of Pakistan was a matter of celebration as India was freed from British colonialism and at the same time vivisection of India led to the refugee crisis. The reason being the influx of refugees into India as minorities were subjected to holocaust of unprecedented magnitude. These refugees sought shelter in Delhi. These refugees brought with them woes, pain, suffering and glimmer of hope after losing their ancestral properties and lands in the newly created Pakistan in 1947. Most of these refugees were successful and well to do businessmen and entrepreneurs who carved a niche for themselves and contributed immensely to the economy of the undivided India. But the tragedy of partition and then the catastrophe of genocide and holocaust in 1947 made them paupers overnight and had to seek shelter on the roads of Delhi and the refugee camps. These camps were not enough to even protect these unfortunate humans from rain and sunshine, leave alone providing the safe shelter. But with the passage of time these people with the sheer resourcefulness and hard work carved a niche for themselves. They regained their strength and shaped their destiny with the renewed zeal to establish themselves and secure their shattered lives. And the result of their struggle and then success was for all to see, when they not only recreated their business ecosystem but enlarged their sphere of influence to provide jobs to people of all hues and became the job creators. They did not stop here but created a niche for themselves in the socio-political space of Delhi and that as visible when they gave a firm foundation to the activities of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS).It is among these passionate men of integrity that stalwarts like Kidar Nath Sahani, Krishan Lal Sharma and Madan Lal Khurana emerged who sowed the seeds of nationalist zeal in the masses of Delhi and the result was for everyone to see. When the new avatar of the BJS emerged in the form of BJP these people kept the momentum of hard work going. It is the hard work of these stalwarts that today BJP has emerged victorious and people have given surprise to the nation. At the same time it cannot be ignored that it took more than twenty five years for the BJP to reclaim Delhi. For this the credit must go to the national leadership of the party. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been the rallying point and the galvanising force who with his hard work and connect with the people has given political stability not only at the centre but in the states as well. His contribution in generating confidence and conviction among the BJP cadres is phenomenal. What was achieved in the last decades has been achieved in his leadership and the political management of Home Minister Amit Shah has added to the BJP’s comprehensive victory in Delhi. Now the national capitol too being in the political domain of BJP will enable it to converge its political energies for focussed development of Delhi
