Jammu, Nov 29: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary and In-Charge of Jammu and Kashmir affairs, Tarun Chugh held a series of important meetings with BJP leaders and workers in Jammu on Friday, outlining the party’s strategy for the upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections, as well as preparations for the forthcoming budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
According to reliable sources, Chugh held separate meetings with all wings and cells of the BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit, calling for the party to be fully prepared for the upcoming electoral battles. “Chugh instructed party leaders and workers to mobilise at the grassroots level, reaching out to every booth and ward across the region to ensure the party’s presence and make the people aware of the welfare schemes and programmes of the Modi government,” the sources said.
During the meetings, Chugh convened a separate session with the 28 newly elected BJP Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from Jammu and Kashmir. He discussed the party’s approach for the upcoming budget session and instructed the MLAs to raise issues concerning the people of both Jammu and Kashmir in the assembly with full force. “Tarun Chugh urged the MLAs to vociferously highlight local concerns to ensure that the voices of the people of J&K are heard and addressed in the legislative proceedings,” they added.
The BJP leader sought detailed reports from the party leaders and workers regarding the party’s preparations for the Panchayat and ULB elections. The party has been focusing on expanding its reach, especially in the Kashmir region, and Chugh called for concerted efforts to expand the party’s base through the ongoing membership drive. He urged the party’s organisational team and workers to make the membership drive “historic” by enrolling a record number of active members.
Ahead of his meetings in Jammu, Tarun Chugh had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other top BJP leaders in Delhi. During the meeting, they discussed the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir and the party’s strategic approach to the upcoming elections and budget session. Sources said that the BJP leadership is focused on strengthening the party’s position in the Union Territory, particularly in the wake of the successful delimitation process and the promise of greater political engagement in J&K.
