Jammu, Nov 29: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary and In-Charge for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Tarun Chugh attended a key review meeting at the party’s state office in Jammu as part of the ongoing ‘Sangathan Parv’. The meeting, chaired by BJP State President Sat Sharma, focused on assessing the progress of the party’s membership drive and strategizing ways to expand its reach, particularly in rural and remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, Chugh said the BJP is the world’s largest democratic political party, with over 11.5 crore members nationwide and 2.57 lakh members in Jammu and Kashmir alone. He highlighted the growing influence of the party in the region, saying the BJP had secured the highest vote share in the most recent assembly elections in the Union Territory, thanks to the “visionary leadership” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He lauded India’s economic transformation under PM Modi, saying, “India is now the world’s fifth-largest economy, transitioning from one of the most fragile to one of the strongest. Every citizen, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, is benefitting from the government’s inclusive welfare schemes, which reflect the vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’.”
Chugh reiterated the government’s firm stance on terrorism, saying, “Pakistan-sponsored terrorism will be eradicated entirely under our ‘Zero Tolerance on Terrorism’ policy”. He said the BJP is committed to ensuring security and stability in the region.
In his address, the BJP leader responded sharply to recent remarks made by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti, who had alleged that India’s secular foundation was being undermined. Chugh dismissed these claims as baseless, accusing Mufti of being out of touch with reality. “Her comments reflect her ideological bankruptcy. No government scheme discriminates against any religion, group, or caste. The nation is witnessing inclusive development that uplifts every section of society,” he said.
Chugh accused Mufti of resorting to divisive rhetoric, which he claimed stemmed from her party’s repeated electoral failures. “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have rejected her party time and again. Instead of introspecting, she spreads venomous propaganda that has no factual basis,” he said, adding that the BJP was focused on building a united and prosperous India.
The BJP leader further stressed that the party’s growth and the nation’s progress under PM Modi’s leadership reflect a shared vision of democracy, development and inclusivity. He urged party workers to continue strengthening the membership drive and make it a historic success by reaching out to every section of society in Jammu and Kashmir.
