Jammu, Aug 18: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) successfully organized a first hybrid mode Two-Day Residential Training Program for Mentors of Standards Clubs on August 17 to 18, 2023, at Zone by The Park Hotel, Pathankot. The program was attended by the mentors of 82 Standards Clubs through hybrid mode.
Rajesh Kumar, District Education Officer (SE), Pathankot was the chief guest. In his keynote address, he said that in the present consumerism-oriented digital era, quality assurance has become very significant. “This can be achieved by creating quality consciousness in the young generation. Youths of the country need to be prepared for future needs. The values children are exposed to in their formative years get inculcated in their young minds and will help in transforming the future of the country,” he said.
Kumar appreciated that BIS JKBO has established more than 270 Standards Clubs in educational institutions of Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab (6 districts of Punjab) with an aim to develop a scientific approach among the students in their daily life.
Highlighting the objectives of the program and explaining the BIS activities, Tilak Raj, Director and Head, Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office said, “Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see. The Mentor acts as the guiding force to get the activities under the standards club in a manner to channelize their creativity and enhance their scientific temperament. It is therefore imperative that the Mentors themselves understand the concepts behind standards and their roles in the quality ecosystem.”
With this vision, BIS JKBO conducted the training program in which technical Lectures on the overview of BIS activities, concepts of quality and standardization at the national and international levels, types of standardization and Standards, benefits of standardization, Objectives and Guidelines for Standards Clubs, Role and responsibilities of Mentors were delivered by Hitesh Yadav, Scientist B of BIS-JKBO.
During the Training Program, features of the BIS Website, Manakonline Portal, Know Your Standards portal for free download of Indian Standards and BIS Care App were demonstrated to the participants with examples followed by classroom/group activities on Standards Writing on a variety of subjects. The BIS initiative of capacity building of the mentors was appreciated by the participants. The training programme was coordinated by Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer, BIS JKBO.
