Srinagar, June 19: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), Thursday inaugurated ‘12 BIS Students Chapters’ under its flagship initiative to strengthen engagement between academia and the development and promotion of standards in India.
As per a statement the event was hosted by the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar — a premier technical institute and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)-signed partner of BIS. As part of this strategic collaboration, the Students Chapters will work to foster a culture of quality consciousness, standardization, and consumer awareness among the youth. Tilak Raj, Director and Head, BIS JKBO, formally handed over the BIS Students Chapter certificates to the respective mentors of NIT Srinagar. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Dr. Iqra Altaf Gillani, Nodal Officer of the BIS Students Chapter at NIT Srinagar, along with the following designated mentors from various departments—Dr. Iqra Altaf Gillani – Nodal Officer, Department of Information and Technology, Dr. Tanveer Rasool – Department of Chemical Engineering, Dr. Shakeel Ahmad Waseem – Department of Civil Engineering, Prof. Adnan Qayoum – Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Pankaj Kumar – Department of Electrical Engineering, Dr. Tanveer Rasool – Department of Chemistry, Dr. Vijay Kumar – Department of Physics, Dr. Owais Ahmad – Department of Mathematics, Dr. Mohammad Ahsan Chishti – Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Dr. Amandeep Singh – Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Dr. Aravi Muzaffar – Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Dr. Ajaz-Ul-Islam – Department of Management Studies. These Students Chapters will act as catalysts in promoting the ethos of standardization through various student-led activities, projects, and industry-academia interactions.
The event was effectively coordinated by Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standards Promotion Officer, BIS JKBO, who also briefed the faculty mentors on various online features of the Standard Promotion Portal—the digital gateway connecting BIS with its students’ chapters. He highlighted how the portal facilitates seamless interaction, resource sharing, activity reporting, and engagement between BIS and academic institutions
