Srinagar, Apr 30: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office organised a Manak Manthan session on Unalloyed & Alloyed Steel Ingot & Semi Furnished Products (IS 14650), focusing on technical discussions on Standards.
The event, held at Avinay Hall of BIS Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office Bari Brahmana, facilitated a constructive dialogue on Indian Standards related to Steel Goods (IS 14650, IS 2830, IS 1786 & IS 2062). The aim was to gather insights from industry manufacturers and explore standard provisions from both technical and user perspectives.
Pankaj Atri, Joint Director, BIS-JKBO, extended a warm welcome to the participants and provided an overview of the program. He highlighted BIS’s efforts to foster stakeholder involvement at the grassroots level, emphasising technical advancements in national standards and their accessibility to end-users. Atri also elucidated on BIS’s role as the National Standards Body and its standard formulation process.
Lalit Mahajan, President of Bari Brahmana Industry Association, was a special invitee, addressing industry challenges in the region. He acknowledged industry representatives for their significant contributions to product quality, presenting mementos as a gesture of appreciation.
Meanwhilethe BIS officials showcased various features of the BIS website, including Know Your Standards, BIS website, and BIS Care App. The session encouraged open house discussions, facilitating engagement with various industries in Jammu. BIS officials extensively deliberated on all clauses of the standard (IS 14650), addressing technical and editorial comments raised during the session. These comments will be forwarded to the relevant technical committee for further review.
The meeting witnessed active participation from steel and related products industries in the Jammu region. Manufacturers voiced their concerns and were encouraged to submit recommendations and address industry challenges. BIS officials assured participants that their feedback would be communicated to the appropriate committees for consideration and action.
