Baramulla, June 29: Residents of Baghi Islam in north Kashmir’s Baramulla town have expressed disappointment over the deteriorating condition of the marriage hall in their area.
The right-side supporting column of the building at the main entrance is exposed and appears unfinished or broken, raising safety concerns for the occupants. The window glasses of the building are broken. The windows have altered in size, and the wood of the windows has also deteriorated, possibly due to strong winds and different weather conditions.
“The administration should post a watchman there at night to look after the building,” a local told Rising Kashmir, adding, “We approached government offices several times, however, to no avail. It is a result of negligence.”
According to locals, the building was constructed a few years ago, and many marriage ceremonies took place there last year. They said that one room of the building is currently used by the sanitation section of the Municipal Council Baramulla as their designated building is under construction.
Another local said, “Whenever someone books the hall for marriage purposes, they have to bring their own matting. Also, there is no proper lighting system. If the government makes it serviceable, it will be highly beneficial for society.”
Talking to Rising Kashmir, the Chief Executive Officer of the Municipal Council Baramulla, Noveed Ajaz Khan, acknowledged that the marriage hall is run by his office. He promised to look into the matter at the earliest.
