Jammu, Aug 03: Chairman Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), Ghulam Nabi Azad on Saturday held extensive consultations with party delegations in Srinagar and Jammu. These meetings aimed to gather suggestions and insights from party leaders and workers in preparation for the upcoming assembly elections.
During the discussions, Azad, according to a statement, called for involving party members at all levels in the decision-making process. “There is a he need for a unified and collaborative approach to ensure that the DPAP’s electoral strategy addresses the needs and aspirations of the people effectively,” he said.
He said that while the recent Lok Sabha elections were focused on national issues, the assembly elections will present a different scenario. “The delay in assembly elections has heightened public eagerness, as many concerns remain unresolved,” he said. He also highlighted the lack of developmental work, which has intensified the demand for timely elections and effective governance.
The former chief minister reaffirmed his commitment to honesty and transparency, saying he would never mislead or lie to the people. He said his mission is centred on promoting development and peace for J&K.
He said, “The Lok Sabha elections were driven by a national narrative where people fell victim to false propaganda and exploitation, receiving nothing in return. The assembly elections must focus on local issues. The development we initiated must continue. The public suffers due to parties engaging in politics based on religion and caste, which ultimately harms them. Our focus should be on development, peace, and reclaiming our rights—jobs, land, and statehood.”
Meanwhile, leaders and workers who led the delegations urged Azad to take a strong stand against parties that exploit innocent people and spread false allegations. They called for moving beyond a purely secular ideology and working inclusively for the benefit of all communities. The leaders also suggested that Azad initiate conventions and public meetings to connect with the people, address their concerns, and tackle pressing issues. They expressed their readiness to prepare for the upcoming assembly elections with the goal of forming the next government.
Azad expressed his deep appreciation for the leaders and workers who put in significant effort during the Lok Sabha elections, despite the challenges posed by a new party and symbol. He acknowledged their hard work and dedication and emphasized learning from past mistakes to ensure a stronger performance in the upcoming assembly elections. Azad urged everyone to continue their efforts with renewed vigour, aiming for victory in the next electoral battle.
