Budgam, Mar 09: Dryland Agricultural Research Station (DARS) Rangreth in collaboration with KVK Budgam organized a one day awareness cum input distribution programme for tribal farmers of District Budgam under All India Coordinated Research Projects (AICRP)-Pulses sponsored by Indian Institute of Pulses Research (IIPR) Kanpur.
More than 30 farmers and farm women of tribal community participated in the programme. Director Extension SKUAST-K, Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi was the Chief Guest of the programme. Associate Director Research, DARS Rangreth, Prof. Zahoor Ahmad Dar was Guest of Honor. Dr. Bilal A. Lone, Sr. Scientist & Head KVK Budgam welcomed the participants and gave brief about the programme. Prof. Ajaz A. Lone, Senior Breeder gave a brief presentation about the importance of pulses and their agro technology.
Director Extension SKUAST-K emphasized the farmers to give due importance for pulse production and follow guidelines of the SKUAST-K and impressed upon the efforts of University for upliftment of Farmers. He gave a thorough briefing of the importance of seed replacement programme, advantages of newly varieties of pulse seeds released by the University and distributed pulse seed, seed bins, implements besides vermi-compost bags and organic fertilizers among the tribal farmers. Director Extension and the visiting scientists lauded the role of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai for all support in enhancing University outreach programmes. The farmers thanked University authorities for their Capacity Building and support.
Other scientists who participated in the programme were Dr. Latief Ahmad, Scientist DARS Rangreth, Scientists from KVK Budgam and representatives of NGO NISSO and ISDS foundation Nagpur. During the programme, Bins/equipments/pulse seed and other Rhizobium culture were also distributed among the farmers. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Mir Nadeem Hassan, Scientist Animal Science KVK Budgam.
