Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari, Transport Officer, Srinagar told Rising Kashmir that for old vehicles, the transport department has introduced a subsidized scheme. “For buses or vehicles that are between 15 to 25 years old, we provide a subsidy of 500,000 rupees for their replacement.”
He said whenever applicants come forward there is a periodic meeting chaired by the Transport Commissioner and cases are approved.
“Unfortunately, in Jammu, we have observed that many applicants come forward but the response in the Kashmir division is somewhat poor. So, in this matter I would like to request all the owners that if your vehicles have crossed 15 years, please come forward.”
