SRINAGAR OCT04: Ahead of the counting of votes for the eight Assembly Constituencies in Srinagar District for the 2024 Legislative Assembly elections, District Election Officer (DEO) Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat visited the SKICC-Centaur today to assess the arrangements for a seamless counting process.
During his visit, the DEO conducted a thorough inspection of the preparations at the counting centers, emphasizing the importance of security measures both inside and around these locations. He finalized the surveillance and security protocols, seating arrangements, transportation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), and the technical setup in the counting halls to ensure transparency, accuracy, and timely announcement of results.
Dr.Bhat directed officers from various line departments to ensure uninterrupted power and water supply, proper internet connectivity, media management, entry passes, and other necessary arrangements ahead of the counting day.
Stressing the need for seamless arrangements, he highlighted the importance of facilities in place for counting centers, strong rooms, CCTV links, and the training of personnel to uphold the sanctity and integrity of the democratic process. The DEO confirmed that the counting would adhere to Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines and will be conducted under video recording.
Currently, the EVMs are secured under a three-layer security cordon in strong rooms at SKICC-Centaur following the completion of the voting process on September 25, 2024.
The counting of votes for all eight Assembly Constituencies in Srinagar District is scheduled for Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at designated counting halls in SKICC-Centaur. The DEO was accompanied by Returning Officers, various nodal officers, Deputy District Election Officer Srinagar, and other concerned officials during the inspection.
