ASCOMS docs carry cancer screening tests for industrial workers

Jammu, Dec 1: The American Oncology Institute  – Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences & Hospital (AOI – ASCOMS) along with World Cancer Care Organization organised  a free cancer screening and detection camp at Industrial Growth Center-SIDCO, Samba. 
The camp was inaugurated by Dr Abhishek Mahajan, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Samba. Dr Sanjay Sharma, Deputy Director, Health, Samba and Dr Vidhi Kohli, Chief Medical Officer, Samba were the guests of honour. It was organised keeping in view the exposure of the industrial workers to various cancerous substances which may lead development of cancer at any stage of life. 
The expert specialists from AOI-ASCOMS Dr. Surbhi Kudyar, Breast Oncoplastic Surgeon and Dr. Sumit Pandita, Radiation Oncologist provided free consultation to the people attending the camp. The screening was done by providing free diagnostic facilities like Mamography, PSA, PAP smear, Blood Counts, etc. A total number of 268 persons were screened for cancer. 
Giving details of the camp, Dr Pavan Malhotra, Director Principal, ASCOMS informed that this was the first-of-its-kind camp organised for screening of the deadly disease cancer for industrial workers. He said the camp is meant for the people of Samba and not merely restricted to the industrial workers. While answering the questions, he informed that such camps are organised as a regular affair by AOI-ASCOMS. In near future, the similar camp will be organised in the District Hospital, Samba as requested by CMO, Samba, he said. 
Dr Neeraj Bishnoi, Regional CO, AOI, while speaking to the media persons said that awareness needs to be created in a bigger way among the rural population about the cancer as it is no longer a taboo but is purely a curable and treatable disease. The aim of AOI is to reach the far flung areas and provide the diagnostic facilities at the door steps of the people.
Among others present on the occasion were Mr Pawan Sethi, Manager, SIDCO, Samba, Mr Aditya Sabarwal, Regional Dy Marketing Head, AOI, Mr Arjun Malhotra, General Secretary, Samba Industrial Association, Mr Vikrant Thakur, Unit Head, AOI, Mr Ashutosh Gupta, Manager Marketing, AOI, Dr Anju, BMO, Samba, Mr Anil Raina, Dy Manager Marketing, AOI and supporting Nursing Staff of World Cancer Care Organization.
