Qazigund, Jul 9: In a commendable display of assistance and support, the Indian Army in Qazigund came to the rescue of approximately 650 Amarnath Ji Yatris who were stranded on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
The temporary closure of the highway due to adverse weather conditions had left these pilgrims, including women and children, in a challenging situation. However, the timely intervention by the army ensured their safety and well-being.
Army spokesperson told Rising Kashmir that the stranded Yatris were provided with emergency relief and shelter at a nearby camp after inclement weather and landslides at Ramban led to the closure of the highway. The Indian Army’s commitment to ensuring the safety of the Yatris was evident as they swiftly arranged for the pilgrims to be shifted to an adjacent camp, where they were provided with shelter, warm clothes, food, and medical assistance.
Rajni Shukla, a Yatri from Punjab, expressed gratitude for the assistance received, stating that they had been at the camp since Saturday. She explained that adverse weather conditions and the subsequent blockade of the roadway had left them stranded, but the security forces offered them shelter and other forms of support. Shukla further praised the Army for providing them with essential items such as medicines, food, and other necessities, emphasizing that they were pleased and did not experience any inconvenience.
It is worth noting that the Amarnath Ji Yatra, a revered pilgrimage, had been brought to a halt on Friday along both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes due to adverse weather conditions and the suspension of traffic on the Srinagar Jammu National Highway.
