Srinagar, July 22: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Jammu and Kashmir Police – a specialized unit to check the rising menace of drugs – on Saturday said it recovered a huge quantity of poppy straw worth lakhs of rupees.
A police spokesperson in a statement said that ANTF received specific information that one drug peddler Tariq Ahmed Malla, a resident of Mohanpora Budgam, has concealed a large quantity of poppy straw in his residential house and is going to smuggle it by illegal means.
On receiving this information, the ANTF team along with a team of local police under the close supervision of SSP ANTF J&K immediately swung into action and raided the residential house in question, in collaboration with the concerned Executive Magistrate, he said.
During the search, the team recovered a huge quantity of poppy straw from the house which was concealed in polyethylene bags under the tin roof of the residential house, the spokesperson said, adding that a case under relevant sections of the law was registered at Police Station ANTF Srinagar.
“The general people of the area hailed the efforts of ANTF Kashmir and showed their willingness to support police to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society which is the real sign of police-public relationship,” he said.
The Anti-Narcotics Task Force Jammu and Kashmir has appealed to the general public to share information regarding such drug dealers active in their respective areas so that appropriate action as warranted under the law is taken against such drug peddlers so that this menace is uprooted from society.
