Bandipora, Aug 18: The Annual Pilgrimage of Maha-Dhyaneshwar (Chota Amarnath) Yatra in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district is set to begin today.
Maha Daneshwar temple, affectionately known as “Chhota Amarnath” lies within the dense forests of Dardpora Village where a naturally formed ice lingam, showered by delicate water droplets from above, graces the sacred site.
The pilgrimage to this mystical cave spans just one day and accommodates a group of 7 to 8 individuals due to its narrow confines.
Traditionally observed on ‘Sharvani Purnima,’ the yatra involves not only paying homage at the Maha Dnyaneshwar temple near the cave but also navigates the area’s challenging terrains.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Manzoor Qadri will flag off the 100 devotees who will commene their journey at 5 am from the Sharda temple in Kaloosa village.
Coordinator of the pilgrimage, Opendra Koul, while addressing a press conference at Sharda Mandir Kaloosa said that the Pilgrims will depart at 5 PM, traveling by bus to Arin Dardpora before trekking to the cave and returning in the evening.
Koul said that approximately 100 pilgrims are expected, with comprehensive support from the Bandipora Administration, including the water, forest, agriculture, and police departments.
Koul said that the pilgrimage plays a vital role in fostering peace and harmony, drawing visitors from various regions, including those new to Bandipora.
Koul further said that they face existing infrastructure challenges but are working diligently to boost tourism and awareness. “We are including trekking and cultural experiences to appeal to a broad audience.”
The event will continue to evolve, aiming to attract both locals and tourists, with future plans to enhance its scope and visibility, he said.
