Srinagar, Jan 27: The Animal Husbandry Department of Jammu & Kashmir is conducting door-to-door visits to gather data for the 21st Livestock Census in the union territory.
An official from the Animal Husbandry Department told Rising Kashmir that the Census has been started in the month of December 2024 throughout Jammu and Kashmir. The Director of the Animal Husbandry Department of Kashmir serves as the nodal officer for this census in the Union territory, with the department acting as the nodal agency for this census.
“The employees of the Animal Husbandry Department in Jammu and Kashmir are visiting every village to conduct online data collection via a mobile application for the 21st Livestock Census,” he stated.
The official noted that since the launch of the Census, employees have been consistently engaged in this endeavor. It is important to emphasize that a livestock census is conducted every five years nationwide, under the oversight of the Government of India. Currently, the 21st Livestock Census is underway.
“In rural areas, where a significant portion of the population relies on livestock for their livelihoods, this census data is crucial for the Government of India to develop improved employment schemes and welfare programs tailored to these communities,” he added.
