Srinagar, Jan 07: Ahead of 74th Republic Day, comprehensive security measures have been implemented across Kashmir, with officials assuring the public that the situation is firmly under control.
Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir V.K. Bidhuri extended a warm invitation to residents of the Kashmir Valley to participate in the festivities scheduled for January 26 at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar.
“I extend my heartfelt invitation to everyone to join the January 26 function at Bakshi Stadium Srinagar this year,” Bidhuri stated, emphasising the success of the August 15 celebration last year. “Similar to last year, I once again invite people to come and be a part of the January 26 festivities. I am hopeful that you will respond positively and join us in the celebration,” he added.
Meanwhile, a senior police officer told Rising Kashmir that security has been beefed across the valley ahead of Republic Day celebrations on January 26, with forces keeping close vigil in Srinagar and adjoining areas.
“The security situation in the Valley has largely been improved as compared to past years. The final arrangements are being finalised for January 26th celebrations,” he said.
The official said the latest technology has also helped security agencies to monitor the situation in Srinagar. Vehicles including ‘Black Panther’ Command Control Vehicles and CCTV cameras are being used to track the miscreants,” he said.
The senior police officer said to prevent terror groups from entering the city, areas that border Srinagar lie remain under our focus. “We have set up makeshift bunkers to keep track of the situation and streamline the visitors,” he said.
“The concerned district SSPs keep vigil around the locations where parades will take place. In case of any doubtful activities, preventive detentions can be done on a priority basis to ensure a peaceful atmosphere in the region,” he said.
“We are on alert to foil any untoward incident. Security forces are alert and all preventive measures have been taken to foil attempts of anti-national elements,” he said.
On Sunday, a surprise frisking operation was conducted at city centre Lal Chowk and adjoining areas while commuters and private cars were checked by a joint party of security forces.
He said they have taken all necessary measures, prevented terror attacks, and ensured a peaceful atmosphere in Srinagar city.
It’s noteworthy that due to security concerns, the divisional administration had been hosting Republic and Independence Day celebrations at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium Sonwar Srinagar for the past few years.
However, owing to a considerable improvement in the law-and-order situation in the valley, the administration has now opted to hold such events at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar.
