Anantnag (Kokernag), Apr 28:  A Government Middle School in the Khokarpora Adhal village of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district is facing criticism for its abysmal academic performance in the recently held 8th grade examination.
The school’s recent 8th-grade results reveal that only one out of 15 students passed the exams, raising concerns about the quality of education being provided in the school.
As per local residents, the school is situated in a distant village within the Kokernag region and primarily caters to students from underprivileged families.
“The school has four teachers, and they have failed miserably in imparting effective lessons to the students,” they claimed.
The passing rate of this institution has shocked the locals, who are calling for higher authorities to step in.
“It’s unfortunate that the students in this school can’t even write their names. The teachers posted here must be grilled for the outcome of the low results,” argues Gulzar Ahmad, a local citizen.
According to an educationist, the March session affected the outcome. “Students from uneducated families typically do not study at home during the winter break, and when they return to classrooms in March, they fail to cope up resulting in their failure in the examination.”
“The half-heartedness from teachers has also been the reason,” he asserts. Had they imparted effective teaching after they resumed class, it might have brought good results.
Mohammad Yousuf, a local said, the school is in ruins and teachers are hardly concerned.
“The school must be revamped and a fresh beginning must commence. These unfortunate results shouldn’t come up again in future. The career of our wards must not be put on stake,” Yousuf said.
The Zonal Education Officer (ZEO), Vailoo Kokernag, Manzoor Ahmad, told Rising Kashmir that the Head of Institute has been transferred while the unsatisfactory results are being probed.
“The low examination qualifying percentage is being investigated. The immediate step has been that the head of the institution has been transferred, and the rest of the details will follow after the due probe,” he added.
