Ruhaan Malik, a young and budding musician from Srinagar city has given wings to his passion for music through melodious singing and compositions that have received an overwhelming response from across the music frenzy.
His songs which include ‘Jhelum’, ‘Jaan wandyo’, ‘Sahibo’ have not only been par excellence but are immensely appreciated and listened to, on social media platforms.
In a chat with Rising Kashmir, Ruhan revealed how he imbibed his passion for music from a very young age and lived his dream through hard work and talent.
“I used to connect with Kashmiri songs that I heard while growing up or from cultural programs we would have at school. My school DPS has played a big role as my tryst with music began from there only during all those events and programs,” Ruhan said.
Adding, “That is actually how I got obsessed with all the instruments around. It turned into a passion and the passion was so strong that it eventually became my profession.”
Ruhaan says that music to him is akin to a beautiful skill set that one can learn and enjoy in life by playing different musical instruments.
“Music is a way to distress your life apart from making a living out of it eventually. It is a beautiful way to reach out to people, there is no other way of expression as good music. It is akin to a voice to voiceless,” Ruhan revealed.
Ruhan has a bachelor’s degree in music and aspires to pursue masters in the same. Talking about choosing music as a career, Ruhaan said that it was a hapless situation for the aspiring youngsters due to lack of proper guidance on how to craft a promising career in the music industry.
He says, “It is sad that nobody taught us how to draft a career in music. It begins with passion only but eventually you have to carve a career out of it. While evolving in the industry there are a number of options you can choose as a musician. You can become a sound engineer as there are less sound engineers left in the industry. You can become a session music player where you can go and play with any artist. You can also do music management which is a whole different profession ,or you can choose singing and become a singer.”
Regarding his upcoming projects he said, “I am working on an album of mine and a few Kashmiri folk songs that I am producing. There are few other songs that are coming ahead. Currently I perform solo sets in Delhi, that is how I earn. I am planning to form a band and tour around India and the world.”
