Srinagar, June 02: Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian’s Interfaith Dialogue chapter on Sunday commemorated the 35th demise anniversary of Imam Khomeini (RA) by organising a daylong seminar on the theme “Interfaith Dialogue: Its Need and Importance in the Contemporary Times”. The event took place at the Howzeh Jamia Babul Ilem Oriental College of Learning in Budgam.
Distinguished guests, including representatives from various religious communities and organizations, graced the occasion. Among them were Syed Shamas Rehman (Representative of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq), Moulana Kurshid Ahmed Kanoon Gou (Chairman Himayat ul Islam), Narender Singh Khalsa (President Sikh Intellectual Circle), Mir Shahid Saleem (United Peace Alliance Jammu), ID Khajuria, Ashu Peter Matto (President Christian Sabha), Pastor Paul, Dr John Philips (Kashmir Christ Church of Kashmir), Aga Syed Mujtaba Abbas Mosavi Al-Safavi, Sajjad Kargili, and Bashir Shakiri of Imam Khomeini Trust, Kargil, among others. Faculty members and students from Howzeh Jamia Babul Ilem, Maktab-e Zehra Women’s College, as well as Ulemas, and participants from various walks of life also attended, a statement issued by the Anjuman said.
Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi Al-Safavi, the president and founder of the Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian’s Interfaith Dialogue Chapter, highlighted the importance of interfaith dialogue in fostering understanding and unity among people of different religions. “There is a need to follow the teachings of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to create a world free from sectarianism and bloodshed,” he said.
“Interfaith dialogue is crucial to combat fanaticism and promote communal harmony,” Aga said, adding, “By providing a platform for people of different faiths to come together, interfaith dialogue helps in clarifying doubts, fostering understanding and promoting peaceful coexistence.”
Speakers at the dialogue reiterated the importance of interfaith dialogue in a multicultural and multi-religious society like ours. They highlighted the role of every religion in promoting pluralism and communal harmony.
In recognition of his efforts in promoting diversity and interfaith dialogue, Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi Al-Safavi was felicitated by the distinguished guests at the end of the seminar.
