Kulgam, May 21: Mian Altaf Ahmad, the National Conference candidate for the Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary seat, on Tuesday claimed that people have made up their minds to support the NC. He said the party is actively reaching out to people, listening to them, and urging them to vote.
“By the grace of Allah, wherever we go, whether it is in Kokernag, Surankot, Mender or Pahalgam, Shangus, people meet us and listen to us. People have made up their minds to vote for the National Conference this time,” he said.
Mian said they are confident and, as a responsibility, they go to people, reach out to them, talk to them, and ask them to vote for NC. “We are fulfilling the right, and we are getting good responses from people,” he said.
In response to questions about the recent attack in south Kashmir on a political worker and two others, the senior NC leader said, “This shouldn’t have happened; it’s unfortunate – losing any innocent life. We condemn it. There should be an investigation into how this attack happened and why it happened.”
Meanwhile, Imran Nabi Dar, the NC State Spokesperson, in his address, said that the “Green Flag” party is playing dirty politics and doesn’t have any valid points to criticise Mian Altaf Ahmad. “Instead, they keep telling people that Mian Altaf Ahmad isn’t a resident of south Kashmir and that he came from Kangan to contest the Anantnag Rajouri parliamentary seat,” he said.
“I have an answer for them. Tell these PDP leaders that we didn’t divide Kashmir based on regions like south, central, or north from each other. Whoever is on stage, be they Gujjar, Bakkarwal, Kashmiri, Hindu, Dogra, or from any community, they are all residents of J&K. And we didn’t import anyone from outside,” he added.
Imran said Mian’s family has contested elections over 10 times. “Mian himself has been an MLA five times. Mian’s late father contested elections and won three times. Once he contested from Rajouri – Budhal area – which is now part of Rajouri and Poonch—how come Mian is an outsider now? He is from here in the Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary seat. This is propaganda of the PDP which they are peddling at every stage, and they have nothing else,” he added.
