Jammu, Aug 21: Kuldeep Kumar Rao, a member of the State Organisation Building and Manifesto Drafting Committee of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Jammu & Kashmir, on Wednesday said the party is committed to providing free electricity up to 200 units, ensuring 24-hour uninterrupted power supply and addressing the growing unemployment issue in the union territory.
Rao in a statement issued here highlighted the success of the AAP-led Delhi government’s model of governance, which he said has set a benchmark in providing free electricity, quality education, health services and potable water. “These services have become the talk of the town and have inspired political leaders in various states, including J&K, to promise similar initiatives,” he said.
He praised the people of Delhi and Punjab for electing AAP and acknowledged the transformative impact of Arvind Kejriwal’s governance, which he said prioritises service to the common man. “Kejriwal’s governance model is centred on ‘serving, not ruling’, a concept that challenges the divisive and communal politics of other parties,” he said.
Rao expressed astonishment at how the Delhi government, despite having no local power generation capabilities, has managed to provide free and uninterrupted electricity for up to 200 units. He criticised the current J&K administration for “supplying 80% of its locally generated power to the Northern Grid, neglecting the needs of the local population”.
“The people of J&K must remain vigilant and prepared to reject the anti-farmer, anti-poor and anti-youth policies of the current government,” he said, adding that the recent distribution of appointment letters by the Prime Minister is “mere election-time tactics that would fail to sway the electorate”.
The AAP leader said there is a need for political change in J&K. “The cycle of power between Congress, NC, PDP and BJP has only deepened the problems of the common man. The people must learn from the past and to consider the AAP’s Delhi model as a viable alternative, which has gained widespread acclaim for its effectiveness and fairness,” he said.
