NEW DELHI, MAY 08: In a pioneering move aimed at empowering Kashmiri migrants in Delhi, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has set up specialised polling booths across the capital for their convenience during the LokSabha elections. These designated booths, strategically located at key venues including the Kashmir Resident Commission and various educational institutions, aim to enable seamless voting for the Kashmiri community.
In a significant gesture, the ECI has further announced the provision of complimentary transportation services for eligible Kashmiri migrants to and from these polling stations. This initiative underscores the Commission’s commitment to fostering inclusive participation in the democratic process.
The Office of AERO/ARO, Migrants, New Delhi, has been instrumental in facilitating voter registration and providing essential assistance to Kashmiri migrants. Operating from Pota Cabin 01 at JK House, the office has established a dedicated help desk to assist stakeholders with filing necessary documentation, both online and offline.
To bolster voter awareness and engagement, a series of camps and meetings have been organized across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). These initiatives have yielded promising results, with a notable surge in voter enrollment through Form-M and Form 12-C compared to previous elections.
According to data released by the AERO/ARO office, a significant number of voters have been registered across various parliamentary constituencies, including Baramulla, Srinagar, and Anantnag. The heightened enthusiasm among Kashmiri migrants reflects a growing desire to actively participate in the electoral process.
With anticipation running high, it is expected that the forthcoming LokSabha elections will witness a commendable voter turnout among the Kashmiri migrant community, underscoring the spirit of democracy and inclusivity.
