Srinagar, May 08: A delegation from the farmers’ organisation Bhartiya Krishak Samaj held a meeting with Director Horticulture, Kashmir, Z A Bhat at his office chamber in Rajbagh here to discuss various issues affecting the horticulture industry in the region.
According to a press release issued here, during the meeting, the delegation, led by its Vice President, M Y Zargar, highlighted several significant challenges faced by farmers in the field, including the prevalence of substandard fungicides and fertilizers, unregulated rates of fungicides and pesticides, and the availability of standard fungicides in the market. These issues, when left unaddressed, pose significant obstacles to the growth and sustainability of the horticulture sector.
Director Bhat stressed the importance of collaboration between the farming community and the Horticulture department to address these challenges effectively. He highlighted the pivotal role of farmers in implementing the guidance and directives provided by the department. “Collective efforts are essential to drive positive change in the industry,” he said.
Recognising the immense potential of the fruit industry to uplift the socio-economic condition of farmers, Director Horti reiterated the department’s commitment to supporting fruit growers. It is important to adopt new farming techniques guided by technology to revolutionise the horticulture sector and enhance productivity, he said.
Bhat assured the delegation of the department’s unwavering dedication to assisting the farming community in managing fruit crops. He also highlighted the availability of welfare schemes aimed at promoting the success of fruit growers in the valley.
