The District Unit of the Jammu Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) Kargil has submitted mass resignations, citing intense pressure from the party high command to support the Congress candidate, Tsering Namgyal, in Ladakh.

The announcement was made by Qambar Ali Akhone, Additional General Secretary of JKNC and Incharge of Ladakh, during a press conference addressing the contentious issue.

According to Akhone, the resignations were a direct response to persistent and coercive demands from the JKNC’s top leadership to back the official Congress candidate in Ladakh, which was deemed unacceptable by the party members. This revelation has unveiled simmering tensions within the JKNC, particularly within its Ladakh faction, and has raised serious doubts about the party’s internal cohesion and leadership dynamics in the region.

The mass resignation from the Ladakh unit of JKNC heralds a period of uncertainty for the party in this politically sensitive area. The move is expected to reverberate across the local political landscape, prompting questions about JKNC’s future trajectory and its influence in Ladakh, Akhone said.

Akhone further said that the party high command had resorted to telephonic and social media pressure to coerce the district unit into supporting the Congress candidate, a demand that was deemed contrary to the interests of the people of Ladakh and therefore untenable for the JKNC members.

In a letter addressed to President Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the JKNC’s district unit expressed its deep dissatisfaction with the party’s directives, emphasizing that the pressure to support the Congress candidate went against the fundamental interests of the people of Ladakh. The letter served as a collective resignation from all party functionaries, signaling a significant blow to the JKNC’s operations in the region.
