District Magistrate orders mandatory deposit of arms, ammunition in Leh

Leh, Apr 12: In preparation for the upcoming General Elections 2024, authorities in Leh District of the union territory of Ladakh have issued strict prohibitory orders regarding the possession of licensed arms and ammunition. Following an earlier directive dated March 19, 2024, all license holders of firearms in Leh District are mandated to promptly deposit their weapons at their respective Police Stations.
According to an order, In continuation to this office order No. Even Dated: 19-03-2024, all the license holder(s) of Arms and Ammunition of Leh District are hereby directed to deposit their Arms and Ammunition in their respective Police Stationsimmediately.
The Arms and Ammunition so deposited will be returned back to the license holder(s) by the concerned Police Station after declaration of the Election result on submitting their receipts.
Further Non-compliance of the order by any license holder(s) will be liable to legal action under relevant provisions of the law including cancellation of the license.
As notice cannot be served individually, this order is being passed ex-parte, the order reads.
