Ganderbal, Jan 17: The Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM) district Ganderbal on Tuesday conducted a bankers’ workshop here to iron out the banking gaps with respect to Self Help Groups (SHGs).
Officials said the aim of the workshop was to sensitise the bankers and the community for proper implementation of the programme and offer an opportunity for direct interaction between bankers and SHG members.
During the workshop held at Town Hall Watlar, Ganderbal, the SHG members raised the issues faced by them while dealing with the banks including delay in the opening of bank accounts, delay in disbursal of loans, mandatory leadership changes and behaviour of banking staff towards SHG members.
The bankers assured their full cooperation from their end and cited reasons for the delay in some cases due to new rules. They assured to prioritise the issues of the SHG community with immediate effect.
Speaking on the occasion, Lead District Manager Ganderbal, Nisar Ahmad said the J&K Bank is committed to taking the extra mile towards financial inclusion and empowerment of women and SHG credit linkage. He assured of all kinds of possible assistance to the SHGs.
District Programme Manager (FI) Ganderbal, Javid Ahmad Parray gave an overview of activities and focused on the need for fair credit to the poor which he said is a prerequisite and imperative for the successful and sustainable livelihood of SHGs.
District Programme Manager JKRLM UMEED Ganderbal, Zahid Rashid said the workshop will help bankers and the SHG members to directly interact with each other and give feedback on the existing system of finance to the SHGs that will help banks and the department to improve.
The workshop was also attended by Arif Jan DPM Livelihoods Ganderbal, Naureen BPM Wakura, Owais Gazali BPM Ganderbal, all the concerned bank managers and SHG representatives.
