Jammu, Sept 21: The State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Wednesday conducted raids in Jammu and Kulgam districts in connection with an alleged terror funding case.
An official said that raids were conducted at the residences of accused Abu Bakar of Doda, who is presently living in Bathindi, Jammu and head constable Mohammad Ramzan Reshi, against whom a case under relevant sections was registered yesterday (September 20th ).
“To probe Abu Bakar and Mohammad Ramzan Reshi’s involvement in funding money for carrying out terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir, SIA conducted raids at duo’s residences in Jammu and Kulgam today,” a senior SIA officer wishing anonymity said.
He said that Abu Bakar was not found at his residence during the raids in Jammu’s Bathindi area.
“During the course of raids, search parties have seized various incriminating material having direct bearing on the investigation of the case,” he added.
“Analysis of the seized material would be done and leads that would emerge, would become the basis of further investigation,” he added.
The police officials alleged that Reshi had duped people of crores of rupees and had done transactions worth Rs 6 crores from his 16 bank accounts. He had also obtained more than one PAN card and passport using forged documents,” said police.
The officials further revealed that the arrested head constable had also frequently called on 10 foreign numbers, including one of Abu Bakar’s, and had visited several countries where he identified himself as a businessman.
Reshi’s bail application was rejected by Excise Magistrate Jammu, Umesh Sharma.
The SIA action came days after the counter terror agency got a strict direction from Union Home Ministry to uproot the entire network of organised terror gangs involved in various unlawful activities.
