Srinagar, Jan 15: After three days of cloudy weather, cold wave intensified in Kashmir with night temperature settling several degrees below subzero temperatures. The Meteorological Department has predicted more dip in temperatures till 18th January.
Director MeT, Srinagar, Sonam Lotus said that cold wave gripped Valley parts while maximum places witnessed minus temperatures. He said Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 10.9 °C followed by Gulmarg at minus 10.4°C.
“It is the peak of Chilai Kalan and we are expecting more decrease in temperatures in the coming days. Cold wave conditions will continue to prevail in Kashmir,” he said.
Lotus said the weather will remain dry till January 18 throughout J&K. From 19 to 21 January there are chances of light rain and snow over scattered places over higher reaches, he said.
After that from Jan 22 to 24th, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain, and snow over plains at most places of J&K.
As per the advisory issued by Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police for Monday, subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
“TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic,” it said.
