Srinagar, Jan 15: An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in RedbughMagam area of central Kashmir‘s Budgam district, in which two terrorists are believed to be trapped, police said.
Based on a specific input about presence of terrorists in Redbugh area of Magam in the central Kashmir district, security forces launched a cordon and search operation there, a police official said.
Sr. Superintendent of Police Budgam Al Tahir Gilani told Rising Kashmir that search operation is underway and all entry, exit has been sealed in the arested.
A brief exchange of firing between terrorists and security forces, no fresh contact was established with the hiding terrorists. However, search operation is still on in the area, a police official said.
The officer said two ‘terrorists ‘ are believed to be trapped inside the target area and security forces launched a cordon and search operation there.
He said a gunfight broke out on Sunday morning after the Special Operations Group of police, Army, and Central Reserve Police Force cordoned the area on a specific input about the presence of terrorists in the area.
“As the search parties were zeroing in near the suspected location, the hiding terrorists opened fire at them who retaliated, triggering a gunfight,” the official said.
“We have cordoned the area and all roads leading to the encounter site have been sealed. Currently firing is going on from both sides,” he said.
In case, if the encounter will be called off following darkness, all SOPs will be followed including the installation of more lights, multiple layer cordon, etc” he said.
Earlier in a tweet, Kashmir Zone Police said, Encounter has started at Redbugh, Magam area of Budgam. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.
