Budgam, Dec 19:Farmers facing a shortage of irrigation facilities in their agricultural lands during this year, the irrigation division Budgam has cleared various irrigation canals across the district to provide the proper irrigation water facilities to the agricultural lands of the farmers in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Executive Engineer of Irrigation Division Budgam, Anbreen Anjum, told Rising Kashmir that to ensure irrigation water facilities to the agricultural lands across the Budgam district, we have completed various works under the district capex budget, UT capex budget, and Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY).
“The maintenance works of various canals and headworks have been completed across the district, so the farmers can receive proper irrigation supplies to their agricultural lands,” she said.
Anjum said that we have restored the various irrigation canals across the district. These canals are the Charipora Canal at Charipora Village, the Shure Check Branch of the Munshi Canal at Sonbanjar, the irrigation canals of the Beerwah villages, and the Lani Canal at BandayBagh.
“The five-kilometre-long Batwodder canal, which starts from the Yousmarg Doodh Ganga, was damaged in 2014; this canal has been repaired and restored after eight years,” she said.
“In the various irrigation canals, there was a need for the lining walls, which have also been completed, through which proper irrigation water supply is going to various villages in the Budgam district.” “The canals were lining walls and were constructed, including Wathoora canal at Hissipora, Shumnag canal at Muqam, Nov khul at Parnewa, Kenz khul at Munipapy, Ompora canal at Sheikhpora, and Buchroo khul at Reppora,” Anjum said.
adding that the wooden flume at the Bokanyari Kachwari canal was also completed as the old wooden flume of this canal was damaged. This canal will also provide irrigation water supply to the four villages of the Khansahib tehsil.
“The cleaning work of the various canals is also being completed in the various villages, where there was only a need for the cleaning work,” she added.
Chief Agriculture Officer Budgam, Syed Tafazal Hussain Madni, said that the restoration and maintenance of the irrigation canals across the Budgam district will provide great relief to the farmers as it will pave the way for assured irrigation of their crops.
“Farmers will now be able to grow more crops on their fields, especially paddy and vegetables, but this will also boost crop productivity and enhance crop quality, the main parameters for increasing the farmers’ income, which is the ultimate goal of the department of agriculture,” Madni said.
