Baramulla, Nov 21: Police on Monday said it busted a gang of burglars who have been carrying out house break-ins in Kunzer area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. It said the property worth lakhs of rupees have been recovered.
A police official said that two people have been arrested in this case and further investigation is going on. He identified the arrested persons as Abdul Majeed, son of Ghulam Ahmad Lone, a resident of Checkthan Chanpora, Tangmarg; and Basharat Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Gund Hassi Bhat, Srinagar.
Meanwhile, a police spokesperson in a statement said that in the recent past, several incidents of burglary and vehicle theft were reported in the Kunzer and its adjacent areas; and cases under FIR numbers 40/2022, 72/2022, 76/2022, 87/2022, 89/2022, 102/2022 against the unknown burglars and thieves were registered at police station Kunzer.
“During the course of investigation, with the help of technical and human resources, names of some suspects came to surface,” he said, adding that the name of Abdul Majeed, a well known burglar of Tangmarg area came up.
In order to evade the arrest, Majeed left his home and was hiding at different locations, the spokesperson said.
A police official told Rising Kashmir that on November 6, 2022, police station Kunzer received information about the movement of Abdul Majeed in the village Gulabdaji, and he was arrested in a rapid and swift action.
“After thorough interrogation, he disclosed that he and one more person Basharat Ahmad Bhat were involved in these theft and burglary incidents,” the official said, adding that police arrested Basharat the same day.
Police said both burglars disclosed that in order to hide their crimes and to dispose of the stolen property without being exposed they had opened a workshop at Diver crossing in Mirgund area of Pattan.
“At the workshop, burglars disassembled the stolen vehicles into parts and broke the engines and cut pieces of vehicles by using cutters and then sold these pieces as scrap. They used other parts in the vehicles which came to them for repair,” the police official said, adding that they were also selling the stolen Mobil oil and spare parts to customers from the workshop.
On the disclosure of two arrested burglars, six burglary and theft cases of police station Kunzer have been solved in which stolen property – Mobil oil, spare parts and parts of stolen vehicles, copper utensils, bed sheets, and blankets worth lakhs of rupees have been recovered, the official said.
