Srinagar, Nov 08: The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) on Tuesday said good revenue generating metered areas would be provided with round the clock electricity, while as the others would have three to four hours of power curtailment schedule.
Speaking to the reporters, Chief Engineer of KPDCL, Er. Javid Yousuf said there will be fewer power cuts this winter as compared to previous winters.
“The metered areas where there is normal revenue generation, there will be a 3 to 4 hour curtailment schedule, while the areas which generate good revenue would have round the clock power supply,” he said.
The officer said that the corporation is preparing for the coming winter. According to the corporation official, 33 KV and 11 KV stabilization works are undertaken, besides, all the necessary measures are taken to provide hassle-free electricity to the people in these winters.
He further added that the corporation also carried out branch cutting at important locations and replaced the damaged poles and conductors. New transformers were also sent to various districts for the immediate replacement of the damaged transformers.
The Chief Engineer stated that “the electricity capacity would be increased this year as compared to last year.”
Besides, capacity on the transmission line, and some receiving stations were also increased by the department, he added.
The official attributed unscheduled power cuts to the maintenance work on the two lines (220 KV Wagora Zainkote and 122 KV, Mir Bazar).
“Due to the maintenance works on 220 KV Wagora Zainakote and 122 KV, Mir Bazar, there are some power cuts,” he said.
The official assured that the work on these lines is about to be completed and once it is over there will be fewer cuts.
“The maintenance work will take a few more days to complete, and after its completion, there will be fewer power cuts in the valley,” the chief engineer said.
To improve the infrastructure in the valley, the official said that the corporation is installing smart meters and LTAP wire.
After the installation work is complete, there are no chances of electricity thefts in the Kashmir valley, he added.
So far, the department has installed around 50,000 smart meters, and LTAP wire has also been installed at many locations.
In the coming time, this project will be completed in Srinagar and will be followed by the towns and villages, he informed.
The official said that due to the use of crude heating gadgets, people are facing power cuts. However, he assured that they will form special teams to look into the use of crude heating gadgets and power theft.
