Baramulla, Mar 27: The 4th edition of the Ramzan Cosco Cup cricket tournament commenced on Monday at Showkat Ali Stadium in Baramulla. Organized by the Department of Physical Education and Sports at Government Degree College Baramulla, teams comprising of both students and faculty from different departments of the college are participating in the tournament.

The event was graced by the presence of the college principal, Farooq Ahmad Rather, along with HOD Physical Education, Dr Tanveer Ahmad, and other senior faculty members.

Expressing his views, one of the participating players, Sakib Bashir, said, “Such tournaments inspire youth to showcase their talent. Our Kashmir is full of talent, and we are grateful to the college administration for giving us this opportunity.”

Farooq Ahmad Rather, the principal of the college, expressed his appreciation for the sporting talent in Kashmir and urged the students to give their best effort in every sport they play. He hoped that the students would reach higher levels in sports, such as IPL.

In the inaugural match, the Department of Media Studies faced the Department of Botany. Media Studies batted first and scored a massive total of 134/6 in 15 overs. In response, Botany got off to a good start but lost their way in the middle overs and were eventually all out for just 70 runs in 13 overs.

Saqib Bashir was declared the player of the match for his excellent bowling spell.
