JAMMU, Apr 21: More than 50 persons have so far been detained, including 15 Over Ground Workers (OGWs), suspected of helping the terrorists who carried out the terror attack on Thursday at Bhatta Durrian in Mendhar area of border district Poonch, in which five Army Jawans were martyred, while one Army jawan was critically injured .
While talking to Rising Kashmir, SSP Poonch, Rohit Baskotra informed that the detained suspects were lodged in different Police Stations like Poonch, Surankote, Mandi etc, adding, some more people could be detained as questioning from these suspects has been going on and vital clues and leads are being gathered.
“The questioning from the detained suspects is still going on and it is being ascertained as to how much local support the terrorists got in carrying out the attack on Army truck,” the SSP further informed Rising Kashmir.
The terrorists ambushed the Army truck and opened fire from three different directions after which the vehicle caught fire and five jawans were martyred, while one was critically injured.
The SSP Poonch, Rohit Baskotra, however, refused to share further details of the ongoing investigation from the detained people but did not rule out local support to the terrorists saying, “The questioning from the detained suspects is still going on”.
Meanwhile, a massive joint search operation by the Army, Police and the security agencies continued on Monday for the fifth consecutive day in the forests of Bhatta Durriyan area of Poonch with the help of sniffer dogs and drones to hunt down the terrorists who carried out the attack on Army vehicle.
Rich tributes were paid to the martyred Army Jawans by the locals at Padhyarna Village in Kishtwar, where people took out a candle march to pay homage to the brave hearts, the Army spokesman, Lt Col Devendera Anand said adding that homage was also paid to the martyrs at Akhnoor. The people of Saghiote village in Poonch also paid homage to the martyrs.
