Ganderbal, Feb 28: Authorities on Tuesday said the construction work on Wayil Bridge on Nallah Sindh in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has been almost completed and is expected to be opened in the coming months.
An official told Rising Kashmir that the R&B Department in Ganderbal has completed 95 percent of the work on the Wayil Bridge so far. The rest of the work is going on in full swing and will be completed in March.
The official said the bridge is being constructed on an arch-truss-girder design using elements of truss bridge and arch bridge besides using girders as the means of supporting its deck thus making it a unique bridge and first-of-its-kind in Kashmir.
“The specialty of this bridge is that two vehicles can pass at the same time. The two-lane bridge is approved at the cost of Rs 23.79 crores funded by World Bank,” the official said. “The span of the bridge is 110 meters and width is 10.50 meters besides, the length of approach roads is 330 meters.”
Locals said the old bridge was built three decades ago, but now the bridge has become now vulnerable to passengers. “The old bridge is a single-lane, and every day, it witnesses frequent traffic jams and many passengers, especially employees, lose their precious time,” they said.
Executive Engineer R&B Ganderbal Tatheer Manzoor told Rising Kashmir that the construction work on the Wayil Bridge is almost complete and that they have also macadamized the bridge part.
“The work on two approaches of the bridge is also almost completed but from Wayil side, due to design change we have to extend the approach and it will be completed before the time,” he said.
“In the coming days, the macadamization will also be started from Manigam side and once it will be completed, the administration will decide on the day for its inauguration,” Tatheer said.
