Srinagar, June 26: A seven days capacity building programme concluded at SKUAST-Kashmir. The training programme was organized by the Division of Livestock Products Technology, FVSc & AH, Shuhama in collaboration with Division of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension, FVSc & AH, Shuhama and School of Agri-economics and Horti-business Management, Shalimar. The training programme was a part of a Holistic Agriculture Development Programme entitled “Promotion of Wool and Pelt for Effective Processing and Marketing”.
The objective of the training programme was to upgrade the knowledge and skill of the Veterinary Assistant Surgeons of Sheep Husbandry Department, Kashmir on different facets of wool & pelt production, processing, entrepreneurship, marketing and promotion. Prof. Mohammad Tufail Banday, Dean Faculty of FVSc & A.H. was the Chief Guest of the occasion. In his address, he applauded Division of LPT for conducting a capacity building programme on the subject which is a need of an hour. He emphasized the participants to implement the activities envisaged in the HADP programme with zeal. The programme was attended by 19 Veterinary Assistant Surgeons of Sheep Husbandry Department Kashmir. Earlier, Dr. Sheikh Rafeh Ahmad, Assistant Professor welcomed the dignitaries, guests and participants to the event. The Organizing Secretary of the event, Dr. Asif Hassan Sofi briefed about the training programme. He said that the programme was a part of HADP, where trainers were trained on various facets of wool and pelt processing, entrepreneurship, marketing and promotion aspects under a holistic umbrella.
He apprised that the eminent speakers including Mehmood Shah, Director Handloom and Handicraft department/Industries and commerce; Zubair Ahmad Mir, Director IICT Srinagar; Prof. Sarfaraz A Wani, Former Director Research SKUAST-K; Romesh Khajuria, Chairman Wool and Woolen Export Promotion of India delivered lectures during the programme.
