Srinagar, Mar 01: After more than two months the body of Abdul Rashid Dar of Kupwara, who went missing from Army custody, was found at Zurhama -PK Gali forest area o wednesday, Police said.
On Dec 15 , 2022,  Dar had disappeared  from Army custody.  Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara Yougal Manhas said on Wednesday morning the dead body of missing Youth Abdul Rashid Dar was recovered from Zurhama -PK Galli forests.
“The body was brought to SDH Kupwara where it was identified by the relatives of Dar. After completing all medico-legal formalities including post-mortem by a team of doctors, the body was handed over to the family members for burial” he said.
SSP said that cognizance of the matter has been taken for further investigations. Further details will be shared, he said.
Dar’s family alleged that their house was raided by the Army party on December 15 in which their son of Abdul Rashid Dar was taken for questioning.
Hilal Ahmad Dar told Rising Kashmir that his brother was picked up by Army on December 15th when the family was having dinner at home.
“They detained him and assured us that after questioning he (Rashid) will be released soon. My brother was innocent and had no links with any militant outfit, he said.
Hilal said they demand nothing except an impartial probe in the case.
Another relative, Mohammad Shaban said that the dead body of Dar was handed over to him in the afternoon. His body was half decomposed.
“We urge the LG administration to investigate the matter and put the culprits behind the bars,” Shaban said.
Soon after his body was handed over to the family, the locals shouted pro-justice slogans against the authorities. Later Dar was buried in the local graveyard and hundreds of people participated in the funeral prayers.
As per the family, Dar drove a load carriage vehicle and did menial jobs to support his ailing parents and sister.
He was expected to leave for Punjab on December 16th to sell Kashmiri shawls along with other laborers in the village.
Earlier on 22 December, Police said during the investigation, Dar  gave a slip to the forces. We are investigating in which circumstances he managed to flee. We are in touch with his family also, he said.
