Bandipora, May 10: The students of Government Middle School Hakbara in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district face a tough time as the school compound has been inundated after the recent incessant rains.
The school ground has been submerged due to the incessant rains, leaving the students unable to attend morning assembly and participate in other outdoor activities. The situation has become so bad that students have to take off their shoes to enter the classroom.
The students told Rising Kashmir that the flooded ground has made it difficult for them to attend school and participate in activities. “Our school ground is completely flooded, and we are unable to attend morning assembly or play during our break time,” one of the students said.
The situation has raised concerns about the safety of the students. “We have to put off our shoes and socks and cross the ground to enter the classrooms,” said another student.
Speaking about the issue, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmed told Rising Kashmir that many soil-filling works have been stopped due to bad weather. “But now that the weather has improved, the work will be resumed,” he said. He also urged people to inform the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) about such developmental works.
“We have taken note of their concerns and have already started the process of soil filling in the school ground. The work was halted due to bad weather, but now that the weather has cleared, the work will be resumed,” Dr Owais said.
The district administration has assured the students and the school authorities that the issue will be resolved at the earliest and necessary measures will be taken to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
