Days after two polish skiers died in a massive snow avalanche at famous ski resort Gulmarg, another avalanche took place in Affarwat, Gulmarg this morning, police said.
The area has been declared a red zone and restricted for any movement.
A police official said that the authorities are currently monitoring the situation and conducting assessments to determine the extent of the damage.
“Fortunately, there have been no reports of loss of life or injury so far. Local rescue teams and the police are on the scene, working to ensure the safety of those in the area,” a top police official told Rising Kashmir.
Tourists visiting Gulmarg are advised to stay clear of the red zone and to follow the guidelines issued by the police.
Earlier the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a warning of high danger in the region, advising people to exercise caution while visiting the area. The IMD has stated that there is a high risk of further avalanches in the region, and has called for a close monitoring of the situation.
