Srinagar, Apr 28: Continuous rains in Kupwara have damaged a vital bridge constructed which connected around 50 villages in the Saloora area of Villgam, Handwara.
The bridge’s collapse has caused severe inconvenience to the villagers, who now have to take longer routes to access their respective headquarters. The situation is particularly dire for those who require immediate medical attention or have other emergency requirements.
According to local residents, the historic bridge was constructed by Britishers, over a century ago. The incident has resulted in around 50 villages becoming disconnected from their respective headquarters.
Authorities have promptly responded to the situation and have halted traffic movement over the bridge, urging people to take precautions while walking on it. This news comes in the wake of two vital bridges connecting dozens of villages in Langate and Batagund getting damaged earlier.
Within a radius of 4 kilometers, two vital bridges over Nallah Mawer got damaged, resulting in dozens of villages becoming disconnected from their respective headquarters. Although authorities have started work on the Batagund bridge, the contractor left the work midway after executing some work.
The incident has highlighted the urgent need for the authorities to undertake timely and effective measures to ensure the safety and maintenance of vital infrastructure in the district. The local administration has assured the villagers of swift action to repair the bridge and restore connectivity to the affected villages.
Meanwhile, residents of the affected villages have expressed their concern and apprehension about the impact of the bridge’s collapse on their daily lives. They have appealed to the government to take immediate measures to restore the bridge’s functionality and ensure the safety of the residents.
