Bandipora, March 17: The Department of Animal Husbandry Bandipora on Friday held a mega event at Veterinary Complex Bandipora to distribute cows to farmers of Surinder village for earning of a livelihood. Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad officially handed over 30 cows to 15 beneficiaries of the village.
The beneficiaries were identified randomly through a draw of lots at a subsidised rate under TSP. The eligible beneficiaries were also provided with chaff cutters, deworming kits and mineral supplements.
Meanwhile, progressive dairy farmers and entrepreneurs were given training and awareness regarding the management of animals on scientific practices. The event was also attended by CEO LDBK, Dr Mohd Yunus, Joint Director Planning, Mr Imtiyaz Ahmad, CAHO Bandipora and other District and Block Officials and all three tier representatives of Panchayati Raj viz DDC, BDC and other panchayat representatives.
DC Bandipora commenced the event by handing over the two cow units to the fifteen selected beneficiaries of Surinder. He then handed over the keys of the milk van to the IDDS beneficiary. He also inaugurated the Animal Shelter Shed for the treatment and shelter of Stray Animals.
Dr Owais later attended the mega training cum awareness programme organised for progressive dairy farmers and entrepreneurs. CAHO Bandipora briefed the gathering about the mandate and overall achievements of the department. BVO Bandipora gave a detailed lecture on management practices to be followed for profitable dairying from these units.
The Sarpanch of Surinder village thanked the Department of Animal Husbandry Bandipora and the District Administration for selecting his village for providing such units under TSP.
