DPS Jammu holds annual athletic meet 2022-23

Jammu, Feb 04: Delhi Public School Jammu organized Annual Athletic Meet 2022-23 “JAZBA–E-PARYAVARAN- “Race to Zero Carbon” on Saturday. The event was dedicated to protecting, conserving and healing mother earth through Green Sports activities and by following environmentally conscious behavior.
The event commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest, Mool Raj Uttam Ji, Assistant Director-Youth Services and Sports, Jammu and the Guests of Honor, Vansh Mahajan (Alumni, Batch-2014-15), an International Fencer & Author and Dr. Chahat Masoom (Alumna, Batch-2013-14), National Roller-Skating Champion. The event was attended by more than 300 parents and nearly 4000 students and staff of the school. The guests were accorded a warm reception by the school band and ushered in by the student cabinet, Principal and staff. The welcome address was delivered by the principal-DPS Jammu, Ruchi Chabra.
The school choir mesmerized the audience with an inspiring welcome song. The highlight of the event was the Launch of RACE TO ZERO CARBON Head Bands conveying the message to reduce carbon emissions on the earth and contribute to creating a zero carbon world. A parade of DIPSITES on bicycles adorning the ‘Race to Zero’ head bands and holding a similar banner reiterated the resolve of the DPS students to live an environmentally conscious life style. 
More than 800 students of class III to IX performed a special dance drill depicting the Five Elements of Nature viz; Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space with the help of Laziums and Hoola Hoops. They also performed the yoga along with classical dance and gymnastics moves in matching rhythm, adding charm to the whole event. A majestic drill presentation of Martial Arts & Self Defence by 138 students of Primary and Middle wings highlighting the women power stole the limelight.  This was followed by a March Past by the students of all five houses namely; Chenab, Ganga, Jhelum, Tawi & Yamuna. The contingents were proudly led by Asim Mir (Head Boy) and Mir Sara (Head Girl) The school pipe band ceremoniously accompanied the parade and was appreciated by all.
Sports Captains, Harmanjot Singh and Sidhani Singh carried forth the Sports Torch lit by the Chief Guest and the Guests of Honour, to formally begin the ceremony of Oath Taking. The Principal administered the Sports pledge to all the students, exhorting them to take part in games in fair manner and true sportsmanship and also to become Environment Caretakers through Sports. Then the balloons symbolizing joy, zeal and freedom were released in the air by the dignitaries along with the parents present on the occasion. The Chief Guest Sh. Mool Raj Uttam ji, Assistant Director-Youth Services and Sports, Jammu formally declared the Sports Meet 2022-23 open.
The colourful races run by tiny-tots such as Hop and Flower race, Hoola Hoop Race, Balloon Bursting Race, Carrot & Bunny Race, Sack race stole everyone’s heart. The other events included, Hurdle Race, Sack Race, 3 legged race, 100 mts, Relay, Shuttle race, Cone Zig-Zag race, Skip and Run race, a friendly Tug-of-War event and staff race. The proud parents were seen filled with happiness on seeing their children performing and also cheered for them. 
The Chief Guest and Guest of Honor felicitated the Sports Champions of the day who stood victorious defeating all the hurdles. The event was also addressed by Dr. Chahat Masoom and Mr. Vansh Mahajan who reminisced their lives spent in the school.
Jhelum House was awarded the overall Best House trophy ‘Suruchi Memorial Rolling Cup-2022-23 amidst loud cheering by the students & staff at the closing ceremony. It was announced by the Headmaster-DPS Jammu, Mr. Ravi Kumar Kotroo.
The event was compered by Sheen Wanchoo, Akash Sharma, Jivanatika Chalotra, Tehzeeb Kour and Harman Singh Soni who were supported by Ms. Rupali Sharma and Manisha Dubey while the refrees of the event were Sudesh Manhas, Ravinder Deonia, Romijeet Singh, Sachin Dogra, Sandeep Singh,Arnav Mahajan, Suresh Kumar, Sanya Malik, Moninder Kour Bhatia, Meenu Ragesh, Veena Chib, Gulmeet, Santosh Kumari andPalvi Mahajan.
The formal vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Moninder Kour Bhatia, HOD-Sports Department. The Annual Athletic Meet 2022-23 was formally declared closed by the Guests of Honour, Vansh Mahajan and Dr. Chahat Masoom, while the event ended with the National Anthem.
