Baramulla, May 22: In a tragic incident on Monday afternoon, a 10-year-old girl lost her life in a leopard attack in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Officials reported that the girl, identified as Asifa Rashid, daughter of Rashid Bajad, a resident of Zamboor Pattan Uri, was grazing cattle at Zamboor Pattan when the leopard pounced on her, inflicting severe injuries.
Locals said that the leopard swiftly attacked Asifa, leaving her gravely wounded.
“Despite immediate medical attention, the young girl tragically succumbed to her injuries shortly after the incident,” they further said.
Mohd Maqbool Baba, Wildlife Warden north Division told Rising Kashmir that a team has been sent to the spot to assess the situation.
As per the official data there were around 30 incidents of man-animal conflicts reported in north Kashmir in 2022, with Uri subdivision of Baramulla remaining the most affected area.
In year 2022, five children were killed by leopard attacks in the border town of Uri.
