A multi-talented personality from Pampore town of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district , Asma Mir, 19, has created a niche in the international market for her digital art .
This young artist, who has already proved her mettle in the field of sports, has many customers for her digital art work from countries like the U S A , Brazil, UK and different countries from Arabian peninsula.
“I take orders for 10 to 15 portraits a month from clients,” Asma said.
“The orders may be high but I have to limit them because of striking a balance with my studies and other hobbies,” she said, adding she is not accepting new assignments right now as she is writing class 12th examinations of JKBOSE( Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education) for Commerce subjects.
Asma said that her hyper realistic portraits sell from 80 to 100 dollars in the international market.
Asma’s father, Reyaz Ahmad Mir, narrated that her daughter has created an identity for herself and she is progressing in this field.
He said that the hobby of digital art has enabled her to be financially independent.
“ She is financing her education and other personal expenses from earnings made by selling her art,” he said, adding that her portraits and other paintings sell for rupees 5000 to 7000 in the international market.
Asma told Rising Kashmir she used to draw and paint from early age. Her talent was nurtured by her school teachers who would ask her to translate theme of a lesson into drawings or paintings.
She gradually turned from pencil sketching to water colours and then she forayed into digital art.
“ Basically I am self taught artist in this field, I learnt basics from YouTube tutorials,” she said, adding that initially she used her phone for creating digital paintings, illustrations and calligraphy with the help of an application.
She used to share her digital work on Instagram where she came into contact with a customer who recommended her to others.
Over the time she created a space for herself.
Though, her work has many customers in Kashmir and other parts of the country but she wishes to establish herself internationally.
“In the international arena one’s art is valued and it sells at a competitive price,” she said, adding that many people confuse digital art with artificial intelligence when they are two separate things.
“Digital art needs one’s skill like traditional art,” she said, however it has some advantages like there is greater freedom of editing strikes and it can be delivered to customers online as soft copy.
Apart from painting, Asma, has made her mark in the field of sports. She is a U 19 player of J and K Rugby Girls team and has represented J and K at National level.
