Kulgam, Apr 30: Dardgund hamlet in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, around three kilometres from Devsar tehsil lacks basic potable water supply.
The community has been yearning for potable drinking water for a long time, according to locals.
They said the village has 250 households, and a water supply is desperately needed to meet the people’s needs.
“At least half of Dardgund village is getting supply for an hour or more, but the flow dies down and doesn’t reach the adjacent Mohallahs,” says Ishfaq Ahmad.
He said the people are being forced to consume contaminated water. “The area must be equipped with new scheme as the old one doesn’t serve any purpose now”, he said.
Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Jal Shakti, Qazigund told Rising Kashmir that the area is getting supply from old Service Reservoir (SR) which doesn’t cater to the whole village.
“The village’s source of supply is a spring with limited flow, and the SR is also too small to meet the demand. We’ve already listed it in the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), and the tendering process is nearly finished,” he said.
He said they will construct a new SR and a bore well which will be a relief to them.
